  • Vologda joined 10th European Immunization Week

  • The World Immunization Week is being held in the regional capital from April 20 to 25. Its main goals are to raise awareness and to promote immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases.

“About 3 million people are salvaged in the country every year thanks to immunoprophylaxis. The National Calendar of Immunization has been introduced in accordance with which people are immunized against 12 infections. Besides, immunization according to epidemic indications is carried out taking into account the endemicity of the area. For example, vernal encephalitis is endemic to the Vologda region”, said employees of the Public Health Department of the Vologda region.

The incidence of vernal encephalitis in the region exceeds the average Russian level by 2-6 times. Vaccination is recognized as the only efficient method of its prevention regarding both children and adults.

You can learn more about preventive vaccination, including vaccination against vernal encephalitis, at a special lecture on April 22. It will be given by Tatiana Kurganova, deputy chief doctor of anti-epidemic issues in the Centre for Prevention of Infectious Diseases.

This event will take place in the Vologda Regional Universal Scientific Library named after I.V. Babushkin at 11:00.
