  • Bank protection began in Prechistenskaya Embankment

  • Now the builders are driving piles along the water’s edge. They will have to erect a cast-in-place wall. This structure will prevent slump to the river. The section where they are working is 400 metres long. The contractor plans to install all piles till late August.

“It is not the most labour-intensive, but the most technically difficult work. The river bank is rather soggy. It was very difficult to pull down the equipment”, noted Alexey Sharopaev, chief engineer of the contracting company - LLC “Magistal”.

The Prechistenskaya Embankment at the section from Red Bridge to Lermontov Street is being reconstructed within the framework of the project “Nason-City”. Its main idea is to unite the embankment of the Vologda River in the historical centre of the city into a single walking route. The project “Nason-City” is included into the federal special-purpose program “Development of Domestic and Incoming Tourism in the Russian Federation in 2011-2018”. Considerable means for the embankment reconstruction are channeled from the federal budget.

At present they have already paved the footpaths and coated the traffic area with the first layer of asphalt. They have also started to make a multilevel embankment at the section where the Sodema flows into the Vologda River. The slopes will be paved with slabs and there will be steps to the water from the side of Lermontov Street. They will also make viewing platforms there.

Residents and guests of Vologda will be able to see the renovated Prechistenskaya Embankment with convenient benches, refuse bins and beautiful street lamps at the end of the year. The city authorities are sure that it will be one of the most beautiful places of the regional capital.
