  • About 10 thousand people took part in Second All-Russian Belov Readings

  • The large-scale forum that became a central event of the Year of Literature in Vologda ended in the regional capital on October 23. Different events connected with Vasily Belov were held in all parts of the city and in the native village of the writer – Timonikha - located in the Kharovsk district.

    “This year’s readings were of the All-Russian format. They took place with the assistance of the city authorities and Vologda’s Mayor Yevgeny Shulepov personally. It gave a very high status to the readings. The interest of local people and representatives of the cultural public from all over Russia was especially high. Over 200 scholars, researchers, librarians, museum employees, representatives of literary institutes, literary museums from 8 regions of Russia came to us. Almost all districts of the Vologda region were represented at the event”, said Irina Sultanshina, deputy head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy in the Vologda City Administration.

    The Belov Centre was opened at 5 Shchetinin Street, in the renovated building of the library. Dozens of people have visited it during the first days. The schedule of the visits to the Memorial Flat of Vasily Belov at 10 Oktyabrskaya Street where the writer used to live over the last years has been also made.

    Hundreds of local people read aloud the work of Vasily Belov “Lad (Harmony)” during the ten-hour literary marathon. Lessons about the creative activity of the writer were conducted in all schools of the city. In all, this large forum has united about 10 thousand people this year. And the experts have given the status of the third literary capital of Russia to Vologda.

    The organizers will support the success of these readings next year. 2016 is announced the Year of Russian Cinema. Therefore one more direction – cinematograph – will be added to the program of the Third All-Russian Belov Readings.
